Abstract

One of the most prominent features of the present era is the attention and emphasis on management knowledge as one of the main requirements for economic and social progress and development. What is important as one of the main aspects of management knowledge is the science of planning. Planning is the conscious process of making decisions about the future goals and activities of an individual, group, work unit or organization. Strategic planning plays a key role in the success of organizations in the competitive field. This type of planning, which has been used often by large organizations so far, if properly formulated, leads to the selection of strategies that, if implemented correctly and in a timely manner, will bring excellence and leadership to the organization. In this article, the basic concepts and principles and foundations of strategic planning as one of the types of planning will be discussed. For this purpose, by conducting a library research, concepts related to strategic planning were collected and analyzed in order to extract the relationship between the concepts. And While examining the legal, legal status, and characteristics of each, suggestions and solutions for improving strategic plans have been presented. In fact, strategic planning is one of the ways to control the future, which by indicating the destination and orientation towards the outlined vision, is actually a guiding light for managers who are in search of new methods in the field of forward-looking management. Therefore, strategic planning should be examined as the only reference for guiding planning and should be reviewed with regard to development plans as part of the city system and other variables involved in the development of cities, and ultimately incorrect trends should be corrected. Because paying attention to the effectiveness of strategic planning can contribute to sustainable urban development.
